You probably know everything about turmeric, right? The golden-colored spice has been used as a flavoring and a remedy for centuries, mainly against respiratory problems, liver disease, skin conditions and minor cuts and wounds. Turmeric can also defeat various infections and digestive problems, while also bringing down inflammation in your body and treating colds and the flu.
Most of the properties of the spice can be attributed to the presence of curcumin, the active compound in turmeric that has antibiotic, anti-inflammatory and anticancer properties.
According to research, turmeric can prevent damage to our DNA, reduce inflammation and protect the cellular membranes of our cells. Curcumin positively affects more than 700 genes in our body and can treat well over 150 diseases and conditions.
Thanks to the powerful anti-inflammatory properties, the spice can be used against osteoarthritis and other muscle-related inflammatory conditions.
Besides these problems, turmeric has been found to treat cardiovascular problems, liver problems, digestive and metabolism problems, autoimmune disorders and even neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.
Furthermore, studies have found out that turmeric contains a lot of turmerone, a powerful compound which can repair brain cells, reduce brain damage and assist in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. It does so by preventing the accumulation of beta-amyloid plaque in the brain, one of the main factors for Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.
Dr. William Lavalley, a popular naturopathic doctor, says that turmerone inhibits the routes of molecules once it enters cancer cells, killing them almost instantly while leaving the healthy cells intact unlike chemotherapy and radiation.
Although beneficial on its own, turmeric is even more powerful when mixed with honey. The mixture of turmeric and honey can easily soothe any kind of digestive problem while also reinforcing your immune system and helping your body fight infections such as colds and the flu. Here’s how to prepare the mixture:
- 100 gr. of raw honey
- A tablespoon of powdered turmeric
Just mix the ingredients in a jar, then close it and keep it in the fridge. To treat flu or colds, take a teaspoon of the remedy every hour during the first day.
The next day, take a teaspoon of the remedy every couple of hours, and during the third day, take the remedy only 3 times.
Don’t swallow the mixture at once – let it melt in your mouth instead in order to absorb all the nutrients both ingredients contain.
